World Red Cross Day
May 8 is World Red Cross Day. The day celebrates the international Red Cross and Red Crescent, an emergency aid organization founded in 1922, shortly after World War I. May 8 was chosen because it is the birthday of founded, Henry Dunant.
Today, the International Red Cross and Red Crescent operates in 170 countries, helping people injured and displaced because of war, natural disaster, or tragedy.
