Quick and Easy Christmas Craft - DIY Napkin Rings
by Katelyn Thomas on December 20th, 2008
In a Martha-esque moment, I decided to whip up some Christmas napkin rings for the dinner table. No idea why, since I’m not having Christmas dinner this year. We’re doing breakfast because of everyone’s weird schedules. They look pretty, though.
To make Christmas napkin rings, you’ll need:
- An old red or green sweater (preferably felted to avoid unraveled edges.)
- Narrow holiday themed ribbon
- Buttons or other embellishment
- Sewing machine
- Scissors
- Hot glue gun
How I made the rings:
I cut a one inch strip from the sweater cuff. Then, I flipped it inside out and sewed about an eighth an inch away from either side of the center widthwise. I cut between the two seams and had two napkin rings. I repeated the whole process again to get two more rings.
Next, I flipped the rings right side out and hot glued a strip of holiday themed ribbon around each ring. I hot glued a button to each one, decided they needed something more and added a second button.
There you have it. A green, thrifty Christmas craft for all the holiday obsessed people like me. A set of them would make a cute gift for a non-crafty friend, too, especially if you personalized them by finding an old sweater in a favorite color and substituting letter charms for the buttons to make monogrammed napkin rings.
