Preseren Day in Slovenia
February 8 is Preseren Day in the country of Slovenia, located along the Adriatic coast in South-Central Europe. The national holiday marks the anniversary of the death in 1849 of Solvenian poet, France Preseren, the author of the Slovenian national anthem, among other things. Most Slovenian offices and businesses are closed and the country hosts a number of cultural celebrations. In addition, the government uses this occasion to award the annual Preseren Prizes for cultural and scientific achievement.

Thanks for the correction, Adriaan. Sadly, I was thinking Adriatic and typed Baltic. Still, no excuse. ;-)

Thanks for the correction ;-) We did also have a live internet broadcast from today’s recitals of Prešeren’s poetry from Prešeren square today… and a recording will be available for viewing on the internet at the Radio Kaos website as well in a few days…
