New Champagne Glasses for a New Year
Conventional wisdom says that a flute, the tall and slender Champagne glass, is the best choice for sparkling wine as it concentrates the bubbles and keeps the wine from going flat quickly. That wasn’t always the case. In the early 20th century, the typical Champagne glass had a wide bowl and a short stem.
To get you in a festive mood for New Year’s Eve, here are a couple of my favorite Champagne flutes:
This elegant, newly released design from Waterford combines two of my favorite things–purple tabletop items and Champagne. Of course, It’s a rare Waterford item that I don’t like. The pair retails for $195.
Riedel offers simple, streamlined flutes to complement their stemware line. These flutes are 23 percent lead crystal and go with any decorating scheme. They retail for $54.95 per glass via The Wine Enthusiast.
Black is always chic and these, slightly unconventional, Champagne flutes are no exception. The 6oz. glass by Noritake retails for $17.95 through Cooking.com.
