National Pistachio Day
February 26 is National Pistachio Day. How much do you know about Pistachios? Did you know that:
- Pistachios grow on trees, each one producing an average of 50,000 nuts every two years.
- Pistachios have existed for 80 million years.
- Each nut weights around 1 gram.
- Iran is the world’s leading grower of pistachios.
- Most pistachios sold in the United States come from California, whose pistachio industry began in 1976.
- Pistachios turn golden yellow or red when ripe and pop open by themselves.

Pistachios, especially red ones are a Chinese New Year staple - they’re the nuts that are “smiling”.
