Make a Layered Heart Decoration for Valentine’s Day

Here’s a simple green Valentine’s Day decorating idea that is easy enough for kids but can be sophisticated enough for grownups. You’ll need glue, lightweight cardboard (cereal boxes are perfect) and paper, fabric and sheet music scraps. A few lace scraps and buttons are the perfect finishing touches.
Begin by cutting hearts from the cardboard in several different sizes. I used three layers to add plenty of interest, but you could do two, four, or five layers instead. Next, cut a heart shape from your paper, fabric or sheet music scraps to fit each of your cardboard hearts, apply a coat of glue to each cardboard heart and glue the heart shapes to the cardboard hearts.
Flatten the hearts under a heavy book to make sure the layers bond securely. Then, glue the layers together and place the assembled hearts under the book for a few hours. Add a button or other embellishment to the center of the top heart and attach a ribbon hanger. That’s all there is to it.
If you have a lot of cardboard and scraps, you can make an entire banner of layered hearts. Another option is to glue the layered hearts to cardstock to make your own Valentine’s Day cards.
