Defender of the Fatherland Day
February 23 is Defender of the Fatherland Day in Russia. This day marks the anniversary of the formation of the Red Army in 1918 during the Russian Civil War. The holiday is marked with parades, military displays, and the laying of wreaths on the graves of fallen soldiers.
The day has had many names, beginning as Red Army Day and becoming Red Army and Navy Day during the Soviet Regime, and Defender of the Fatherland Day since 1991.

Yeah Sandy! You outdid yourself on this post! I live here in Russia and it’s great. It has actually evolved into a men’s day, a guy’s day - a day to *congratulate* males of all ages, even if they’re only defending their toys from other little guys.
Oh, I’ve got several Feb 23 cards posted at my site today. You might enjoy. Thanks again Sandy. The next big Russian holiday is 8 March, Women’s Day.

Thanks Eileen! Your cards look great (even if I can’t read them). :-)
I’ve got March 8 on the schedule.
