Black History Month around b5 Media

February is Black History Month in the United States. Black History Month began in 1926 as Negro History Week. The event was started by Carter G. Woodsen (pictured above), a teacher, holder of a Ph.D from Harvard University, and co-founder of the Association for Study of African American Life and History. Mid-February was chosen because it marked the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass. It was extended to become Black History Month in 1976.
