Asian-American Month
May is Asian-American month in the United States. This celebration, begun in 1978, honors one of the fastest growing segments of the US population. According to the US Census Bureau, more than 15 million people of Asian descent reside in the US, about five percent of the population. Five million of these live in California. In addition, multi-cultural Hawaii counts 56 percent is its population as Asian-American.
