I confess I love to read about holidays and while I’m pretty good at decorating and setting a festive table, I’m a mess when it comes to chosing food and drink. That’s where holiday entertaining books come in very handy. They also make nice coffee table books in place of your regular coffee table tomes. Some of my favorites include:
Williams-Sonoma Holiday Entertaining. From the San Francisco-based cooking supply retailer, a collection of 125 recipes from all over the United States, mostly for Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.
Christmas with Paula Deen. This small 4″x6″ book was just published in the fall of 2006. It’s filled with Food Network star, Paula Deen’s homespun, and delicious stories and recipes. Some reviewers at Amazon.com felt that the book was too small, but I think it’s a little gem. Recipes include food gifts, food for holiday dinners, and brunch recipes to serve those overnight guests.
Easter: Recipes, Gifts and Decorations: Beautiful Ideas For Springtime Festivities, With 30 Delightful Flower Displays, Traditional Recipes, Crafted Eggs And Decorative Gifts. This small (just 67 pages) and affordable book by Tessa Evelegh is full of great recipes, decorating ideas, and entertaining suggestions for Easter. Colorful illustrations throughout help make this book a must-have.
St. Patrick’s Day Delights. This 320-page book by Karen Jean Hasko Hood is a charming combination of recipes, stories, and Irish history. It’s the perfect book to you plan your St. Patrick’s Day festivities. When your done reading, set it on the coffee table as a seasonal decoration.
